
On June 24, 2022, the Deans of the University of Washington Schools of Nursing, Social Work, and Public Health issued a joint statement regarding the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. This historic decision gives individual states the power to make decisions about the legality of abortion in their jurisdictions. In turn, the Supreme Court's decision has overturned a 50-year-old, constitutionally protected liberty. With regard to child welfare, the overturning of Roe v. Wade will deny abortion access and impact parents and the life outcomes of children with pressing consequences on their health, reproductive rights, financial stability, and general well-being.
